My name is Rebecca Lehmann and I am a self-taught artist based in Faversham, Kent. Born in 1976, I have always had a passion for drawing and for nature, and since my childhood have enjoyed combining the two in my artwork. However, this remained a hobby for a good few years, as I went off to university to study French and Spanish.

I returned tri-lingual but directionless! I have tried various careers over the last few years, but have found none as satisfying, challenging and fulfilling as drawing. I first started pet portraits in 2004 when my husband and I were living and working in Swindon. After a brief diversion into the world of veterinary nursing (which has been invaluable in terms of really understanding my subjects), I’m back to the work that really comes from the heart – drawing.

My first medium is graphite pencil and I work with the aim of achieving a detailed, realistic effect. Each drawing can take between 25 and 40 hours to complete, so I have learned patience and how to sit still!

When not drawing, I love to go birdwatching at my local reserve (Oare Marshes), and collecting photographs of birds and animals to draw for the future. Please see my wildlife gallery for drawings I have done based on these.

We also live with our two cats Daisy Susan and Rufus and one remaining guinea pig, Bunny. The cats do their best to distract me from my commission work and I am obliged to entertain at various intervals during the day (yes, I'm a true cat slave!).
